What A Way To Spend Your Birthday
It's June 1, my birthday and I'm on the links with brother Mark. Weather was in the high 70's with low humidity. With the Niagara Escarpment always in view we tackled the Bedoe course at Chedoke (there is another course that is less challenging and less costly). Beautiful mature trees, suprisingly true greens and challenging holes made for a great day. You have to remind yourself from time to time that you are playing a municipal course and not a private one (especially when the foursome in front of you spends more time looking for golf balls while the group behind you is hitting right up behind you). Unfortunately, due to maintenance considerations, many of Thompsons signature bunkers are now filled in. Chedoke serves as a ski hill in the winter and needless to say sand traps and skiers are not a good mix. Aside from the abscence of this one Thompson characteristic, Bedoe was a good value. For those of you who try to avoid increasing your heart rate, i strongly recommend a cart. You'll thank me after going up Cardiac Hill. Walk or ride be sure to stop and enjoy the view once you get up there.
